Interventional Cardiologist.
Children:
Rohan, age 17, 11th grader, becoming an Eagle Scout this
summer. Hopes to pursue a career either in liberal arts or Health Sciences….in
other words, undecided!
Meera,
age 13, avid debater, Sax player, wants to pursue law and move to Washington DC
because ‘’that’s where policy is decided’’!
AFMC memories: Having a lot of fun between the socials,
elections, sports, trekking and hiking and cramming before exams. Living at
home half the time ( my father was posted in Pune for the first 3 years)
diluted a lot of my hostel memories. I
was the ideal roomie because I was never there! Shared rooms with TC, Hima and
Harleen at different times… even lived in a triple for a while! Travelled with
TC to attend the Navy Queen Ball in BombayJ Great memories of going for the Himalayan trek with Suba and the
trekking club lead by KKPK during which we had to stop the bus every now and
then because Khunga would get restless with all the inactivity of riding in the
bus and have to run up and down a random hill to relax! Remember fondly the
dancing till sunrise on New Year’s Day and watching the sun come up from the
water tank over looking the campus.
Best moments: Election time and becoming LR
and taking the death defying victory lap on motorcycles and mopeds!
Favorite teacher: KKPK and Mysei.
Wish I could change about AFMC: That it wasn’t so much fun so that I could
have learnt a little Medicine as well!
If I was not a doctor:- I would be an
architect or author or theater actor.
The journey so far: Adventurous. Internship at BHDC with KK, BKG,
Mandy….enjoying first hand the sweet courtship of KK and Rajesh which lead to a
lasting friendship between us. Lived in the same room at BHDC that my dad had
stayed in doing his internship 30 years earlier.
Learned more medicine then than in the years
at AFMC! Off to Lucknow after that for a 3 year stint, with a 3 month TD to
Lansdowne just before I quit and got married to Rohit. Spent a lot of time with
Ashok and Madhu Chopra and playing with their daughter Priyanka who was a year
old…little did we know then the fame that awaited her! Left for the US in July 1990. After spending
the next 2 and half years preparing for and taking my ECFMG and FLEX exams and
discovering Psychiatry, did my residency in San Francisco from 1993-1997at a
prestigious private hospital. Got the position because the chairman of the
department was an ex US Army Colonel from Walter Reed who was so impressed with
my army back ground that he offered me the position on the spot! Recently took
on a new challenge of starting a department of Psychiatry at the hospital where
Rohit practices. Exciting, fulfilling and satisfying in every way.
Where do I see myself in the next 10
years: Continuing to do exactly what I
am doing
