Memories: On my day one, I thought I was the only one ‘fanne khan’ entering the portals, but soon realized I was nowhere
close to even being an average student. Slogged a lot, but to no cognitive
benefit academically. Peer pressure taught me to relax and let the world flow
by. Gradually started enjoying the independence and graduated into
interdependence with larger number of friends.
Usually
seen with: Sekhon, Pia, Bhatt, Lalia, Tuli, Dhillon, RJ
Usually
seen at: Cigarette joint behind the petrol pump
Never
seen at: Ladies Hostel
Tongue
in cheek moment: Having named all ortho instruments on viva table across DP
Sircar, he finally asked me as to how many ortho surgeries I had seen. Taken
aback, I said ‘none’. “Your training has been incomplete”, were the words that
I could hear. Meekly, I could convince him that I will make up for it during
internship. He took my promise for granted, and lo and behold, I passed my
final MBBS in the first go!!
Best
memories: Sitting on steps of Insti and watching games people play.
Favourite
teacher: Prof Mysorekar, was always left wondering how he could remember and
express himself so well.
What
I could change about myself: Remain connected
What
I could change about AFMC: Becoming a concrete jungle with cramped up space
If I
was not a doctor: Became a doctor as I could not become an Engineer
The
journey so far: Interned at Dehra Dun, my obituary was written once I was
required to be part of IPKF (Sri Lanka) after MOBC Camp. Have been on all
possible appointments for Administrative Cadre officer. Sweet journey across
Tinsukia from where I got married, Fategarh where we were blessed with Kritika,
Jhunjhunu, Jhansi, Delhi, Bareilly, Lucknow, Leimakhong, Delhi and now at Pune.
Contributed with automation of personal records of AMC officers, disaster
relief hospital sent by India to a foreign land at Bam in Iran, construction of
500 bed Military Hospital Bareilly and 200 bed Cardiothoracic Centre at Army
Hospital (R&R).
Icing
on the cake moments: ‘U’ in Delhi titrating
drug dosage with my treating physician in ICU at Leimakhong, ‘U’ in Benguluru
tying up my air evacuation through Air Rescue Team stationed at Jorhat to pick
me up from Imphal to Kolkata in fixed wing, while ‘U’ were tying up my ALS
ambulance from airport to hospital to CCU to cathlab. The prayers and
concern of ‘U’, with me in Army Hospital
at Delhi. And to top it all up, ‘U’ asking me not to groan like an old man,
lest ‘U’ feels old.
My thoughts. The only gift that one can ever
give to all his loved ones in the entire life is to STOP smoking.
Alok Kulshreshta
We lost our dear friend Alok to a long battle with heart disease. From the time in College to MOBC, to MOSCC where he was on the Faculty and all times in between, on and off, all interactions with Alok were an eye opener in the way he grew in knowledge, maturity, with his continuous focus on how to improve the Armed Forces Medical Services, his fighting spirit and his amazing attention to detail while hosting us for Kritika's wedding.... all these times and much more, we all will remember. Memories of Alok will always stay as a true friend who was always there personally as a roommate in college and thereafter in service. Someone who always stood with by us in kindness and a helping hand. His voice will always echo in our minds. Heartfelt condolences to Dipti and Kritika.
In grief
U Batch
