Name: Gurvinder Singh Roop
AFG : 2613
Roop- That name suddenly brought a flood of very pleasant
memories , as clear and fresh as sunshine after a rainy day. I remember the day
when this vibrant and vivacious sardrarji called Roop came to the anatomy
dept looking for freshers interested in Bhangra /gidda. He was preparing a bhangra team for the
upcoming basket ball week. As luck would have it our batch had a lot of
punjabis. His excitement was palpable. We all had a very enjoyable two weeks of
learning under him and then topped it up with a grand Bhangra show at the end
of the BB week. It was a treat watching Roop do the bhangra.
Another beautiful memory I have of him is when he would always come and ask me for a dance on a famous punjabi number Sung by jagjit Singh....it has a lovely beat to it called 'sare Pind wich puaare paye.'
Just felt like sharing it with everyone. He was a great guy!
I shared this with Ravjit and he too went down the memory lane recounting the various events with Roop on and off the hockey field. He was the team goal keeper. No opposing team likes to see a fiery Sardar protecting the goal mouth!!
Energy , enthusiasm, courage and a zest for life are a few words that describe our departed friend Roop...
