Memories from AFMC
ñ My esteemed roommates who tolerated me- Yatindra Kumar Yadav (used
to boil ghee in the room), DK Sharma, Deva Prasad , Soma Sekhar Dhavla in
college and MS Sridhar(fantastic
culinary skills) during advanced course. Remember Praveen Saran, Vicky and
their comments in the dissection table. CM- we were together at school,
both were called “bachu” at home
ñ Exploring South Indian eateries in Pune. Discovered “Iyer mess” in Rastapeth(Does it still exist?
ñ Numerous trips home during term time(atleast 2 midterm breaks), to
the extent I knew the names of all train stations between Chennai and Pune.
ñ Travelling in the train engine whilst going home with the “illad
gang”; arranged by dear friend Inji.
First Innings
Army Service - Took me to many parts of
India starting with Secunderabad for internship, where we had a good time with
Shanmu, AV Ramesh, Himashree & San who were posted with me and Tippana and
Deva(in civil). Postings in 407 Fd Amb(Ferozpur) with memories of meeting Ranga
for beer and cheese. TD to IPKF and then a brief posting to Nimu(28 DIV).
Advance course in Padiatrics at Pune,
followed by marriage and posting to Ahmednagar(with RK Sood and AK Sood in
Aurangabad). This was followed by four years in Base Hospital, Delhi, where I
was also project officer for an IT project, that was way ahead of its time and
sady did not succeed(No Scams!).
Further postings to MH Namkum where our
home was broken into twice. Last posting was
in MH Kamptee, where we enjoyed the company of Aggi & PC1 and
playing golf with Col Lahiri(K Batch) and his young Son Anirban Lahiri(now a
famous golfer)
Second Innings in Civil (2004 onwards)- Worked in Oman, and UAE for six years, followed by a fellowship in
Australia for six months and currently working in UK from 2010 onwards.
Many thanks to Addu and Gyata for
accommodating me at short notice on many occasions! And also to Sany and rest
of U for the fantastic dinner arranged at Bangalore December 2015, when I
escaped from Chennai floods.
Other than Medicine - Work as freelance medical
Journalist for Reuters, which has taken me various places around the world,
inculding Mexico. Also Interested in Medical Informatics and Health Economics.
Other Interests - travel, list to music.
Memories of our Departed Friends
Tippana - Internship together at
Secunderabad. Still remember the conversations during our long walks together.
He went on to do Psychiatry.
Inji - Can't ever forget! Very motivated
and one of the best Radiologists and a pioneer in health informatics in India.
Always on the go and never takes no for answer. Remember the train journeys
together with idli vadas at Gooty station, the clinics he arranged at MMC
during vacation and the holiday at Ooty with the rest of “illads” where we were
playing frisbee at Metupalayam bus stand
at night, must to the consternation of locals.

He instilled such a fear into me for 9 foot ditch during my internship..
That like a true follower shammed it out throughout my career...
Though in UK
