College Memories:
Usually seen – On the cricket
field & movie theatres. Was the only U-cricket team mate who continued to
play cricket right thru the 9th term.
Never seen – In girls’ hostel
Usually seen with – None in
particular
Best moments – 3 to 4 wickets
that I took in almost each cricket match; Bunking classes with regularity;
Watching Devanand flicks; NCC camp at Panchgani
Favourite Teacher – Dr Z, because
he never spoke to me about studies. Only discussed the upcoming cricket
matches.
Tongue in cheek moment – When I
walked up to bat with 9 wickets down & 7 runs required to win, in a cricket
match final vs Madras Medical College. Scored the required seven runs 2,2,0,2,1
to my and everyone’s disbelief.
What I could change about myself
– Nothing.
What I could change about AFMC –
Bring the clinics closer to the hostel so I could attend a few at least.
If I was not a doctor – Would
have loved to be a cricketer.
Where do I see myself in 10 years
time – Putting smiles on the faces of people through soci0-spiritual work.
Life in college:
Spent thousands of hours on the
cricket field. Was one of the 5 cricket team mates of U. Played 100% cricket
matches that our team played. Was never dropped for under performance or
injury, a unique accomplishment.
Also spent hundreds of hours in
movie theatres & in meditation. Spent a lot of weekends at Ram Krishna Math
& visiting Babas & Ashrams in quest for spiritual life even when Babas
were not as much in fashion as today. Read all of Vivekananda’s works, Kabir’s
works a few times & also dabbled in other Hindu, Christian, Buddhist,
Islamic, Jain & Zorastrian literature. Somewhere down the line forgot that
I had joined AFMC to study medicine.
The Journey till now:
Had fun all along starting from
Internship in Kanpur & then on thru Amritsar, Bihta (Bihar), Bangalore,
Gwalior, Wellington, Bangalore, Nal (Bikaner), Congo, Bangalore, Pathankot,
Bangalore. Had short trips to San Antonio, Austin, Honolulu & Bangkok
interspersed in between.
2001 saw a major course correction
in my life when I found my spiritual master Sri Sri Ravi Shankar whose divinity
& wisdom has added immense value to my personal and family life. Today,
myself and wife are ardent devotees of Sri Sri and Art of Living happiness
programme. One sentence that I have heard often during the Art of Living
courses is “I should have got this knowledge & experience earlier”.
My wow moment – When I
experienced ‘Infinity’ during Sudarshan Kriya in 2001.
Random Thoughts:
The U-whatsapp group is an
interesting avatar. Sometimes riveting, absorbing, honest & soothing. At
other times silly, puerile, & repulsing. Clash of ideas & ideologies
makes it vibrant as well as biased. You can see power play, mobocracy, mocking,
strong opinions, advise, passions & emotions at times overpowering the
senses. The U-group clearly brings out that learning and growing up is
life-long process. Each one to his/her own.
Future plans:
To live each moment to the
fullest, teach Sudarshan Kriya &
settle down in Bangalore close to Sri Sri Ravishankar Ashram to continue
Seva, Sadhana & Satsang.
